The Oncology Institute at Shaare Zedek Medical Center is one of the most complex and unique projects we have undertaken in recent years. The building combines advanced technologies with architectural principles of salutogenic design to create an intimate and inviting treatment environment that maintains a continuous connection between the interior and exterior and allows natural light to penetrate all parts of the complex.
The core of the building is a spatial steel skylight element, constructed on different sloping levels. A unique aluminum system was developed especially for the project, combining shaped glass with digital printing. Among the most notable systems are diamond-shaped aluminum cladding using a “scale” method, which includes rounded drainage channels around the perimeter, and a cantilevered glass canopy supported by wooden beams.
At the entrance level, a skylight was incorporated to bring natural light into the interior garden, along with curved railings in the underground floors, all as part of the architectural vision to promote a sense of well-being for patients, their families, and the medical staff.
